Can anyone enroll in a special school?The simple answer is no! In order to enroll in a special school there needs to be approval from both the special school Principal and Group Special Education.
How do I enroll?You will need to visit our school to ascertain if it is suitable for your child. We will then make application or entry to the school on your behalf. This may only take a couple of days!
Do you have a zone?NO! Our students are from all over Christchurch, Selwyn and North Canterbury. However you must always consider transport issues when making a choice of schools as taxi assistance may not be granted over long distances!
Do you take non ORRS students?Generally no! If however we feel there is a good possibility of a successful ORRS application then we may enroll pending an application being made.
Do you have a uniform?Our satellite students wear the uniform of their host school. Students at the Base school or New Brighton have an optional uniform shirt and fleece!
What are the Teacher to student ratios?Generally speaking there are between 5-8 students per teacher plus support staff in each room.
What are the issues with transport?Taxi assistance and or private conveyance allowance MAY be provided for students to attend Ferndale School. There are however some conditions on this facility. It is important to note that entitlement to enrolment and entitlement to transport are two very separate issues.
What are the school donations?
We currently ask for a $110 donation to cover the cost of operating our 4 school vans to allow our students to access the community. Individual classes may ask for contributions for special programmes such as baking or swimming on a weekly basis and any camp costs are charged to parents. Complaints?
